Long Time Away... and a song

I know I have  been neglecting this blog... and my song writing.  Here is something I did using Garageband on an Ipad2.  I was pretty impressed with how good the sound quality is on the built in microphone.  It has a programmed beat, Garageband e-piano, guitars, and doubled vocals.  I know it's super short, but that's about the length of my attention span right now.  Enjoy!

So Much Pain...

Song Writing

Sorry for the long delay in news.

So I haven't written much lately, partly because I've been working on learning to play the piano. Jenny is gone at her parents for a week and I decided to use the time to try and write something. I found one of those sites that challenges people to write a song-a-week. They post a topic and you have at it. This week's topic was "An Omen". So here's what I came up with:

A Trip Back Home

Jenny and I had an awesome trip back home. We got to see all of my family except Eli (bastard left town to go rock climbing). We even took a road trip up to Minneapolis to visit old friends. It was awesome! Alanzo and I are still working on the same song, hopefully i'll get to post that one soon.
I found a dead bee at my mom's house and decided to get a picture of it. Looking at it now, it would've been better if I was holding a baseball bat.

Facebook, Finances, Phalanges, and the Fabulosos Cadillacs

So it's been another month and this time, for real, a lot has been going on. I recently gave in to peer pressure and created a Facebook account. It has actually been pretty cool connecting with people I haven't talked to since high school.

I have also had to come to terms with my new deformity. I cut off a chunk of my left FU finger while cutting an onion. (see picture below) I apparently need to work on my knife wielding skills. I'm hoping it grows back thinner so as to increase my guitar fingering accuracy.

I also decided recently to put some money into the stock market. I have no experience nor proper understanding to make informed decisions... but it's fun. So far I've been making some OK money, (purely by luck).

In music news, I remembered a random song that Dave, this guy Jon, and I wrote in high school. Jon played the cello, so we invited him over to play with us one day. We wrote a song and probably never played it again, but for some reason it popped into my head while laying in bed. So I got up and started recording it. I don't have a cello, so i played what i could remember of Jon's part on the bass. I just have to put down the vocals. I'll try to post it soon. Also, Alonzo (from some of the songs in previous posts) moved back from Alaska and we plan to start writing together. I'll keep you all posted on that!

God, this is getting long, but one of my all time favorite bands Los Fabulosos Cadillacs recently reunited and are on tour. Jenny and I just went to see them last weekend up in L.A. It was glorious!!! Check them out if you like amazing songs. :)

Just a Quick Song

Hey everyone,

I can't believe it's already been a month since I've posted. In the last month I sold some stuff so I could by other stuff. I got a new cymbal which sounds sooooo rad!! I'm sure you'll hear it on the next post. I spent last saturday recording a song. It's pretty much done except for the lyrics, so that'll probably take a year or so before I finish it... ughh..

I also bought a Wii... man.. soooo much fun. Anyway, a friend of mine wants me to go play at an open mic, but I didn't feel like any of my songs would translate very well to just having an acoustic guitar. So I thought I'd try to write something simple that would work at an open mic. I wrote this one a few nights ago. It's still a work in progress, but I figured I hadn't posted in over a month... i should post something. So, check it...

For the Ones I Loved MP3

Hey everyone. Sorry it's been a while. I went to Denver to meet my brother for some skiing/snowboarding last weekend. It was super fun... and painful. Below is a picture from the snowshoe hike we did up to an old silver-mining ghost town. Several of us had near death experiences. Tom fell off of the remains of a collapsed cabin. My heart almost exploded because I'm not in great shape (although I'm telling myself it was the altitude).

In music news, I finally put strings on my craigslist bass guitar last night. I put down a bass track on another song Alanzo and I did before Christmas. Alanzo wrote it, played guitar and sang. I added the slide guitar, drums, and bass. The bass pretty sloppy in some parts because I only did one take and was to tired to do another. (sorry Alanzo, maybe i'll go back and do it again later). Anyway, check it out below.

Also... congratulations to Eli and Nicole on your engagement!!

A song from Alanzo (... and me)

I already posted about Marco and I recording a bunch of freestyles. Well, a few days later, his brother Alazno came over and we did the same thing. I sat at the drums and Alanzo was playing guitar and singing. He made up the lyrics on the fly, and I really like how it came together. Alanzo went back and recorded the first guitar solo. I went back and added the slide guitar solo, bass, and harmony vocals.

I hope you all like it.
